PVC
We utilize American-manufactured expanded PVC sheets in 1 inch, 1/2 inch, and 1/4 inch sizes depending on application. It is lighter than wood, water-resistant, lightweight, yet rigid. We take pride in using American-made PVC on an American-made CNC machine! Not only is it higher quality, but by working with us you are doing your part to support our economy. Many other PVC enclosure manufacturers use Chinese PVC or resell Chinese-built enclosures.
HDPE
HDPE is also known as cutting board material that comes in various colors as well as wood-look. We work with 1/4 inch, 1/2 inch, and 3/4 inch depending on the application. It is very rigid, chemical resistant, and scratch resistant, but much heavier than PVC and the manufactures are quite proud of the material so the price is double or triple what an American made PVC sheet costs. HDPE also takes longer to machine and assemble due to being so dense, shipping is also more costly due to weight and more padding.
Color Materials
The optional colored red, blue, yellow, green, and gray PVC & HDPE can sometimes vary in color shade due to manufacturer availability, different batches over time, or discontinuation of a particular brand. We aim to get the same color from the same manufacturer, however, sometimes our suppliers cannot guarantee color matched availability.
Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate is what “bullet poof glass” is made from. Most of our doors are 1/4 inch polycarbonate, with neonate and gecko condos using 1/8 inch. It does not bow at the corners with interior humid environments like acrylic, is extremely strong and shatter resistant, and must be machined with an endmill rather than laser cut. We use a quality brand of polycarbonate for standard doors, with applications like the Heretic using a special scratch resistant polycarbonate. Standard polycarbonate doors can be upgraded to the scratch resistant polycarbonate as a special request, however, it is more than double the price of standard poly.
Acrylic
Also known as Plexiglass, we use acrylic 1/4 inch sizes for some doors and windows and 1/8 inch for windows in smaller enclosure builds. Acrylic can be laser cut and used with the IQ Series doors, side windows, and some larger enclosure build doors. It is available in clear, tinted, or frosted. Acrylic has more scratch resistance than polycarbonate, can be laser cut and engraved, and can bow out in the corners with high humidity enclosure environments. The bow does not affect enclosure use, but we do use strategically placed door tuners or latches in the corners in acrylic door applications.
Doorknobs
Hinged door enclosures are available with door knobs. Sliding glass enclosures use stick on door pulls instead of the knobs.
